How do I forward an email address to another inbox?

For an existing mailbox hosted with us, open cPanel → Forwarders → Add Forwarder. Enter the part before the @ sign in Address to Forward, choose its Domain, select Forward to Email Address and enter the complete destination. Review both addresses before choosing the final Add Forwarder. An existing mailbox keeps a copy of incoming mail as well as forwarding it, so forwarding does not free its storage.

Check which provider receives your mail

  • Sign in to your account, open Services, find the hosting service for the email domain and choose Log in to cPanel. On a phone, choose cPanel.
  • These steps are for an existing mailbox in cPanel. Open Email Accounts and check that the full source address is listed. To create a mailbox first, follow our email-account guide.
  • If Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or another provider receives mail for the domain, set up forwarding there. Adding a cPanel forwarder will not move that provider's incoming mail to this server.
  • Choose a destination you control or are authorised to use. Forwarding sends message contents to that inbox, so check permission before forwarding a shared or business address to a personal account. Make sure the destination does not forward back to the source.

Create the forwarder

  • Return to cPanel Tools and open Forwarders using Search Tools. In Email Account Forwarders, check whether the source and destination already appear. Do not create another copy of the same rule.
  • Choose Add Forwarder to open Add a New Forwarder. In Address to Forward, enter only the source address's first part, such as hello. Choose the matching Domain to make the full address.
  • Under Destination, select Forward to Email Address and enter the full destination, such as office@example.net, using the real address you intend. Do not choose a discard or program option for an ordinary inbox forwarder.
  • Check the source and destination spelling and make sure they are different addresses. Choose the final Add Forwarder once and check that the intended mapping appears in Email Account Forwarders. This forwards new incoming mail; it does not copy the mailbox's existing messages.

Check copies and delivery

  • Because this guide starts with an existing mailbox, incoming messages continue to be stored there as well as forwarded. Keep checking its storage in Email Accounts. Do not delete the mailbox to try to stop those copies: deletion removes its stored mail and access.
  • Send one harmless message from a separate address you control to the source address. Check both the source mailbox and destination, including spam. Replying from the destination normally uses the destination's sending identity; forwarding alone does not configure sending as the source address.
  • If the message does not arrive, open Tools → Track Delivery, enter the destination in Recipient Email (optional) and choose Run Report. Read the matching Result. The receiving provider can reject or filter forwarded mail, so a saved forwarder is not proof of delivery.
  • To change or remove an existing forwarder, ask us for help if you are unsure of its effect. Do not remove a working route until you have checked where new messages will go.

Ask us to check a problem

  • Open Support → New Ticket, set Department to Tech/Server, choose Priority and enter Subject and Message with the source and destination addresses, test time with timezone and delivery result, then choose Open ticket. Do not attach private message contents, mailbox passwords or authentication codes.
